2019 Goals: For life, for my health, & for the blog

2019 Goals: For life, for my health, & for the blog

My 2019 Mantra:

“I will not be another lightning strike, seen for a second and forgotten just as fast. I will be a never ending storm. Chased by many. Caught by few. Remembered by all.” — Erin Van Vuren

Happy New Year!

I feel like I say it every year, but this time, I feel like 2019 is actually gonna be my year. 2018 was alright. It was full of challenges and triumphs, happiness and heartbreak, soul searching and getting lost all over again.

2018 was a lot of things. I’m grateful for all the things I learned, did, achieved, and discovered, but I am so glad it’s over.

2019 is the year I graduate, travel abroad, start college, and I literally don’t even know what else yet.

I guess that is the best, scariest, and most rewarding part of January 1st. There is a whole year in front of me now, waiting to happen. Full of the unknown, the unexpected, and the unplanned. I’m not going to know what happens until I get there, so I can’t spend too long dwelling on the past and worrying about the future. There just isn’t time.

Even though there’s so much I don’t know about 2019, I still want to have some kind of plan. So like I do every year, I made a list of goals that I want to try and achieve this year. I divided it into three categories this year, health, life, and the blog.

Health Goals

  • Take better care of my hair, as I’d like to donate it in the future!
  • Get more sleep (a yearly goal, but I swear I mean it).
  • Drink a heck ton more water.
  • RELAX.
  • Spend less time on my phone. Get lost in the moment more.
  • Take better care of myself overall.

“If you get tired learn to rest, not to quit.”

— Banksy

Life Goals

  • Have fun: there’s so many freaking exciting things happening for me in 2019, graduating, going to Spain, starting college, and who knows what else could happen, but what’s most important is that I have fun because if you told my fourteen-year-old self four years ago that everything was going to be okay and that’d I’d make it this far, I’d have never believed you.
  • Be more optimistic. I preach positivity, but some days it isn’t always the easiest. I want to refocus on being a positive person and spreading positivity and acknowledge that even when it’s tough, it’s the best thing you can do for yourself.
  • Have a bigger impact. Donate to more charities, volunteer, donate clothes to a place you know needs them, and try to be more selfless. You know you want to do these things, it’s about time you did them.
  • Write every single day. Whether it be in a journal, a blog post, or even just notes in my planner, I want to write something each day.
  • Be a little more fearless. Be a little less scared to take risks, put yourself out there, and don’t be afraid of what others will think.
  • Read!! Quit adding books to my list that I want to read and then putting it off.

“She liked the moon because like herself, it shined it’s brightest when no one was around to see.”

Blog Goals

  • ENGAGE MORE. Like and comment, on social media other blog posts, etc. on the daily to help build engagement. Can’t build and audience if you aren’t part of one!
  • Be active even when life gets crazy. One of my top goals is to post more on my stories, even on days when I’m not working on content, just so you guys know I’m still here, and that I’m planning on getting back at it ASAP.
  • Be bold. Take more fun photos that may require a little bit of risk in public.
  • Think outside the box and take creative risks that push my content to where I want to be.
  • Ask for help and don’t be embarrassed about it. It’s almost impossible for me to do everything myself, whether it be brainstorming content ideas, building outfits, or even taking photos, I want to be better about asking for help creating content.
  • Don’t doubt my abilities, test them and build on them.

“You have to go whole heartedly into anything in order to achieve anything worth having.”

— Frank Lloyd Wright

Wishing you a very happy new year! I hope you achieve all your goals in 2019!

“May you always be the one who notices the little things that make the light pour through, and may they always remind you: There is more to life and there is more to you.”

The Dream

The Dream

“So, what is it that you want to do?”

This is a question I’m certain I will receive about 42 times this holiday season.

This question is a loaded question is disguised by its own simplicity.

It should be easy to say what it is that I want to do, at least according to most people’s definition anyway, which is college and a career.

However, I feel what I want to do doesn’t necessarily fit that definition.

What do I really want to do?

— I’d love to fill you in.

I want to be a writer. I’m not 100% sure what I want to write so I want to try it all. Screenwriting, songwriting, journalism, maybe I’ll even try writing a book, and who knows what else.

I want to be a photographer. I want to test my abilities and improve my photography. I want to maybe even start a small photography business on the side, but only time will tell.

I want to be a content creator. I want to design and put my blood, sweat, and tears into projects that I’m proud of. Maybe I’ll achieve this by helping others find themselves and build brands they’re proud of, or maybe I’ll do this just by creating content of my own. I’m not sure yet, but I can’t wait to find out.

I want to be an influencer. What do I want to “influence?” I want to influence people to be better, to be good to people, ALL people, regardless of our differences. I want to influence people to be the very best they can be and to never quit striving for that. I want to influence people to dream bigger. I want to influence people to stand on their own two feet, to know they are loved, they matter, and that their voice is relevant.

All of these things I can technically achieve without a college degree, however, there are other things I aspire to do that might.

I want to learn more about photography. I’d love to take more photography classes to get a better understanding of how to use my camera. I loved photojournalism in high school so maybe I’ll take a class about it in college too.

I want to be bilingual. I want to be fluent in Spanish. I have taken it for the last four years in high school and I am nowhere near ready to quit learning.

I want to study abroad. I feel beyond privileged to travel to Spain this summer, but I would love to study there for a few weeks, maybe even a semester while in college. Or maybe I’ll even study in a different country entirely! Who knows what the future will hold.

This next one is a little cliche, but I feel it’s necessary to include because it is the whole-hearted truth:

Most importantly though, I want to be happy.

When it comes down to it, it doesn’t really matter what you do as long as it makes you happy, and I know for sure that I am the only one in the entire world who knows what can make me the happiest.

So to my loved ones,

If this crazy dream is a part of it (which hi there, it is), please please respect that, especially if you want me to be happy too.

To my readers,

It took me a while, almost 16 years of traveling around the sun, to find the things that I’m the most passionate about, but once I did, I knew that I had found what was going to fulfill me, give me purpose, and grant me the happiness I’ve told myself for so long I never deserved. I never stopped searching for my passions.

And I will always and forever encourage you to do the same.

xoxo, Katie

Checkup on My Goals for 2018

Checkup on My Goals for 2018

Since it is already about halfway through 2018, which I can’t even fully wrap my head around that fact, I decided I needed to go down my list of goals for this year and see the progress I’ve made. I decided to do this post because of a post the lovely Olivia did over at Absolutely Olivia. She is absolutely amazing (see what I did there) and you can check out her post here, but without further ado, let’s see how much work I have left to do.

  1. Be more positive. I feel like for the most part, I’m doing pretty well this one. Somedays you just can’t help but feel down in the dumps, but I’m getting even better at being able to turn it around and make the best of a situation.
  2. Be more motivated. I’m still working on this one, but I’ve kind of got a game plan set in place for this summer so we will have to see if I can get to where I want to be by the end of the year!
  3. Be more organized and stay on task. Organized? I’m getting there. Staying on task? Umm . . . I need to get back to you on that one.
  4. Network, network, NETWORK. I’ve started some networking and have been talking with other bloggers and a couple brands, but I definitely hope to do so much more by the end of the year. I need to grow my audience more first to be taken seriously, and that is no simple feat. But I feel I can get there.
  5. Be more confident in my decisions, actions, style, intelligence, self-worth, and in front of a camera. In my decisions, there’s a noticeable amount of confidence beginning to show up. In my actions, I definitely feel more confident. I’ve finally started standing up for myself. It was hard, but I’m glad that I did. In my style, yes ma’am I’ve been loving what I’ve been wearing. I’ve made a lot of progress with my self-worth and proud of how far I’ve come. In front of a camera, definitely noticeable progress but it’s hard because I can’t take myself seriously.
  6. Build, renovate, and invest in a blog I’m proud of. YES! This is the first goal I can say I have fully completed this year. I just recently got to upgrade my site to a business plan (goodbye bank account), but I am so happy with the results. My site looks so fancy now I can’t even believe I put it together myself.
  7. Read more books. I set myself a goal to read 35 books this year and so far I have read . . . 3. I’m off to a horribly slow start, but I plan on catching up this summer.
  8. Be creative. By this, I meant more often, and I feel like I am. I’ve been using my notebook a lot more and pushing myself to try new things. I feel like I’m being more creative in my everyday life so I’d say this goal is going pretty well.
  9. Start a portfolio. I am sad to say I haven’t yet started to put this together yet, but it’s on my ever-growing list of summer projects.
  10. Improve my photography. I just recently got my first DSLR camera and I have only gotten to dabble with it just a little bit, but I am hoping to change that before the year is up.
  11. Maintain a bullet journal. I hate to say this, but this goal has been scrapped. I thought I would have to time to keep up with it, but when I came back from winter break I worked almost nonstop and had quite a bit of schoolwork, so I actually had to go buy a pre-done planner. I hope to pick it up in the summer again and turn it into more of an art journal, but as a planner, it didn’t work out too well for me. ** But Hey! If you really love bullet journaling and want to see some amazing spreads, you should check out my friend’s Instagram account. Her account is @sammisdoodles. You won’t be disappointed.
  12. Make a plan. I actually have a plan! I have narrowed it down to two colleges that I would like to attend, and I even have degrees figured out! I’m looking at a communications degree because I feel like it will cover all the bases for what I want to do, and I would like to minor in Spanish because I love the language.
  13. Let that sh*t go. For a while, I was off to a great start with this goal, but as summer got closer I was having a harder time moving forward. I know my break is almost here, so I’m ready for time to myself to think and get my priorities in order.
  14. Breathe. I definitely haven’t worked on this goal too much because I’ve been running around like crazy this last semester, but summer is almost here so hopefully, I will give myself that time I need to relax.
  15. Live a little. I wrote a very personal speech for my English class and I feel like that was most I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone in a very long time. Even though I haven’t done anything life-changing or exhilarating yet, I feel like I’m on the right path.

I’m feeling okay with the progress I’ve made so far, but I definitely have a long way to go. I’ve even come up with a couple more goals for my blog and social media this year.

I know the numbers aren’t everything, but I’m really proud of the content I’ve been putting out so I would love it if I could reach 400 (maybe 450) Instagram followers by August. If you’d like to take a look or even give me a follow, my username is @lookshecanblog.

I also am hoping to start utilizing Facebook and Twitter more so if you’d like to check out those pages too, I’d love it if you’d follow along! Twitter is also @lookshecanblog and my Facebook page is TheLookSheCanBlog.

And last, but certainly not least, I hope to have even more blog followers. I am so proud of how this blog looks, and the content I have been putting out, that I hope to reach even more people and know an even larger audience is reading what I have to say. If you love what I write, please consider subscribing via email to be notified when new blog posts go live, it really means the world to me.

I hope you are achieving everything you hoped you would this year so far, or are at least well on your way to personal success.

Happy soul-searching, world-traveling, and happiness-seeking, beautiful people!

Thanks for stopping by,

My Goals for 2018

My Goals for 2018

Happy New Year! I can hardly believe 2017 has already come and gone. I honestly can’t say I remember who I was during this time last year only because I know she would be a complete stranger to me now. So who am I today? I am a 17-year-old girl, aspiring to be a lifestyle blogger, creative individual, and all around a better person who is hopeful for the future. Continue reading “My Goals for 2018”

September Goals 2017

September Goals 2017

Hello all! Since August has already come and gone without the help of a goals to help me along, I have decided I should get back into the practice of setting some goals and making some plans for myself this month. I need to start getting on track and planning things for the future. After all, I’m a junior in high school, I’m supposed to have it all figured out by now right? … I think not, but it’s a nice sentiment. Continue reading “September Goals 2017”
