August Favorites 2018

Happy September!

Believe it or not, I am alive and well, and I have not completely abandoned this blog! School has just been majorly kicking my butt this year.

However, I’m sick of excuses, so I’m determined to come up with a schedule in order to crack out new posts for you guys because I freaking miss being creative and pushing out new content, so I’m promising to make more time for this site that makes me so incredibly happy. I need more things that make me happy in my life right now.

My new official goal is one post a week. If I feel like I can’t reach that goal for whatever reason, I’ll be sure to let you know on Instagram (@lookshecanblog).

I thought I would start off this new slew of posts by sharing a few things that I was loving over the summer and into August!

Beauty

Not Your Mother’s Dry Shampoo

I’ve been a big fan of Not Your Mother’s products ever since the Beach Babe sea salt spray became a big deal, but once they turned the same amazing scent into a dry shampoo, I just had to check it out.

It smells just like the same amazing salty beach spray they came out with a few years ago. It is one of my favorite hair products of all time, and I think this dry shampoo is now joining it on my list.

LipSense

I was at one of my favorite local shops in Fishers, Blush Salon and Boutique when I picked up these little babes.

The lovely ladies in the store told me all about them and I decided I just had to try them. What it is a long-lasting liquid lipstick and they were on sale, so I couldn’t just let the opportunity pass me by!

The color I got, you’ll never believe it, is called Kiss Me, Katie. I was looking for a slightly pink natural color to wear every day, but I’m super bad at remembering to reapply. So with this, all you have to do is apply the color in the morning, and just remember to apply to gloss when your lips feel dry, which for me, is much better

Style

There will be a TJ Maxx haul and styling post coming soon to feature a few of my style favorites!!

. . . There’s already a couple sneak peeks on my Insta. See if you can guess!

Movies + TV Shows

To All the Boys I Loved Before

Yes, yes, I jumped on board the bandwagon and watched one of latest Netflix original teen movies and oh my gosh it was fantastic.

I will say, I haven’t read the book (Which is rare because I’m normally a read-the-book-before-seeing-the-movie kind of person) so I didn’t really have any expectations.

The book has been on my “To Read” list for quite a while now, but being a stupid, crazy busy person that I am, I haven’t gotten the chance to read a book in its entirety for a while, so I decided why not sit down and see the movie based on it.

Also, I just had to see what the deal was with this Noah Centineo guy. He’s without a doubt a cutie and I will now be forever searching for my own Peter Kavinsky.

Thank you, Netflix.

Murder She Wrote

I always love my gal Jessica Fletcher and so there’s nothing better than staying up late with my mom for a Murder She Wrote mystery marathon. It was without a doubt one of my favorite things to do this summer.

Etc.

MY CAR!!!

This summer, I finally got my license and a car, just not in that order. I’ve had my car for six weeks now, but I’ve only had my license for five.

I know not everyone would get a car before they can drive it, but for me and my family, once I got my license I needed to start driving myself places immediately, so having one beforehand just worked better for us.

So here she is. She’s gorgeous, she’s already my baby, I’m paying for her myself (But it’s all okay because I love her), and for some reason, I can’t pick a name for her.

Feel free to comment any car name suggestions below! I’m thinking maybe Diana or Luna? I’m a plant naming expert, but apparently not a car naming expert.

New Reusable Starbucks Cup

I’m all for the eco-friendly options out there when it comes drinking cups and straws, but sometimes the alternatives aren’t always budget-friendly. So, I was super excited to see a new reusable ice coffee cup at Starbucks for, wait for it, only $3.

That’s right ladies and gents, there’s now an inexpensive and eco-friendly way to drink your iced coffee at Starbucks.

Music

I’ve decided to only mention my top 3 songs for the month here because I’m wanting to start something new! Inspired by Maddy Corbin and Hannah Claire, I want to release a monthly playlist post, so stay tuned for my September playlist!

+ Jump (Acoustic) by Julia Michaels

+ You Deserve Better by James Arthur

+ Broken Love feat. Parson James by The Him

May Favorites

May Favorites

Happy June!

I can’t believe another month has already gone by. I mean seriously, 2018, where are you going?

I decided to be a little more on top of things this time around and upload this post closer to the end of the month! So ta daa! Here it is, my May Favorites.

Beauty

7585935952_IMG_0495+ BB Cream

If you read my April Favorites post, you know I was trying to take a break from wearing makeup every day. I did that for a little over a month (Maybe even longer, I can’t remember), so I’m now trying to transition into a simple summer makeup look.

I’ve never been the full face makeup kind of girl, but a light foundation and some eye makeup are what I normally go with. For summer, I love BB cream. It has SPF in it, which is super important if you’ve got sensitive skin and it’s summertime. Maybelline’s has always been my go-to.

IMG_6691.jpg+ Sinful Colors – Big Daddy

This is one of my favorite colors for summer because it’s so bright! I’ve never been the subtle or natural nail color kind of girl. Nine times out of ten I’m wearing a shade of blue or purple, so even though this color is just as bold, it’s different for me.

7583912480_IMG_0543.jpg+ Clearproof Deep-Cleansing Charcoal Mask

I’ve been trying my hardest to clear up my face, but blackheads don’t like to go anywhere! This is my only miracle-worker.

I put this on my blackhead-specific zone (My T-zone and chin) and leave it for about fifteen minutes. Then I wash it off and use a Biore strip to remove some of the dirt while it’s loose and it works like magic. If you struggle with blackheads, you can check it out here.

Style

7583945040_IMG_0314+ New Phone Case

I’ve been obsessed with my new phone case from Casetify it has the most positive vibes and such bright colors, it just feels like my personality as a phone case. I went online to find my mama a new phone case for her birthday and they were having a special when you bought two cases. So one for mama and one for me!

Movies + TV

+ John Mulaney’s Netflix Specials

I can now confirm I have a favorite comedian. I’ve been really into Nextflix comedy specials this month, but John Mulaney’s were my absolute favorites. What a guy. I have no words. He is effortlessly funny and incredibly talented. I would love to see him live someday.

+ The Kissing Booth

So this was a beyond unusual movie, but I really liked it. It’s not your average angsty teen movie, but yet there were still a lot of common themes that were there from other movies. Elle and Lee had the ultimate friendship (Not to mention he had the ultimate house, like wow), but they had the rare kind of friendship that had the capacity to be a new kind of Love, Rosie, except they don’t end up together in the end, their friendship is just stronger than ever.

Music

This month my music was chill vibes, nothing hardcore, but still, something you can jam to, ya feel me? These were my top 3 songs:

+ “Darling” by David Ryan Harris — This was my absolute favorite song this month so I embedded it here so you can listen to it below.

+ “No Goodbyes” by LEON

+ “Stay” by Elliot Root

Those were only my 3 most played songs, the rest of my May playlist you can listen to here. I love to chat about music so feel free to slide into my DM’s and recommend a song or two!

That’s all for my May favorites! I really can’t believe we are almost halfway through the year already.

Do you feel like you’re making the most of 2018 so far? I feel like there’s so much left that I want to do, and so few months left to do it (Even though there are still eight months left and I’m just over-analyzing everything a little bit, I’m nervous because of how quickly time is passing)! I have one more year left in high school. It hasn’t even started yet and I already know it is going to fly by.

Enough with my overthinking and rambling. Have a great Saturday!

April Favorites

April Favorites

Happy May!

It may already be a full week-ish into May, but it’s better late than never!

Today I’m here to share a few of my favorite things from the month of April. Near the end of this month, I finally got to transition into spring. You may know that we actually had snow here in Indy this past month, so I was more than ready to get into the whole spring thing.

Beauty

7583933360_IMG_0365

+ Hair Ties

I saw these hair ties everywhere. At school, on Instagram, even ladies wearing them while at the grocery store, so I decided I had to try them and see what the hype was about.

I have been wearing a clear one on my wrist almost the whole month and I have to say, I really like it a lot. It is cute and kind of a unique style first of all, and they don’t get stuck in your hair.

I feel like I may have tried some hair ties similar to these in the past and found myself in excruciating pain when trying to remove it from my hair, but with these, that’s not the case!  I’m super happy with these and will probably buy more of them later on.

7516749616_IMG_0337

+ No Makeup

Not wearing makeup has been something I have really been enjoying the past month. There’s something really cool about learning to be confident enough in your own skin to go out and just let it be seen as what it truly is.

I have never really been insecure without makeup, but I have always been insecure about my acne. Sometimes I have to take a break from makeup and allow my skin to breathe. This month I gave my skin a break and it is currently the clearest it has been in months.

I highly recommend this to anyone with acne troubles or even facial insecurities. Knowing you are giving your skin the break it needs from your pore-clogging makeup can make it a little easier to become less reliant on your makeup.

Besides, you shouldn’t be afraid to show off your bare face. I told this to a good friend one time when she was feeling bad about not having the time to put on makeup before school: “Makeup isn’t what makes you beautiful, makeup just emphasizes the beauty that’s already there.”

7516749616_IMG_0326

+ Travel Vaseline

Okay, so for some reason my lips have been obnoxiously dry recently. I don’t know if this is an allergies thing or what, but either way, I am really not loving it.

I bought about five or six tubes of Blistex while I was at work because I kept losing them all, and then my mom read an article that said some brands of chapstick actually have an ingredient that makes your lips drier, which therefore means you feel the need to reapply it more often, which means you have to buy more tubes.

First of all, that blew my mind. It’s not great, but what a crazy strategy they have going there. Anyways, most all brands including Blistex supposedly have this ingredient in them which was why my dry lips were only getting worse.

The article said that Vaseline is the best option to use for dry lips. So I have been buying up these little tubes like crazy and my lips look and feel much better. Crazy how when you use the right stuff you see results, right?

Style

7516749616_IMG_0330+ Forget-Me-Not Ring

I love this ring so much. My mom and I went to Lily & Sparrow Boutique here in Fishers and we found this line of jewelry made by young women who were rescued from human trafficking called Purpose.

I love this ring because it is a little knot, which I like to think of as a forget-me-not. It is a little reminder for me personally to take a deep breathe and remember where I came from and what I believe. Your identity is something important you should hold onto and never forget.

7516749616_IMG_0339+ Brown Tote from Target

This bag has been my go-to for several months now and will most likely get carried all summer long. I don’t know what it is about this brown color, but I feel like it is just the perfect color for summer.

I actually bought my grandma one exactly like it as a thank you for helping me get my prom dress altered. She also thought it was a super cute summer bag so you heard it first people, this bag has the grandma seal-of-approval! You can shop it here in a variety of different colors.

Books

7583933360_IMG_0373.jpg+ The Help

If you haven’t read this book, or if you’ve only seen the movie (which is fantastic), this book is an experience. This is one of those books I feel everyone should read at least once. It portrays what life was like for African Americans during the civil rights movement almost to perfection. It’s such an important thing to read.

7583933360_IMG_0369+ Notorious RBG – Young Reader’s Edition

“The life and times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg.” I would love to read the original version sometime, but this was the version my library has so here it is! I’m not quite finished with it yet, but I’m already loving it. I also would love to see the movie that just came out based on this book.

Music

I discovered a ton of amazing songs this month so I’d like to share a few of my favorites.

+ Love Lies” by Kahlid with Normani

+ FRIENDS” by Marshmello & Anne-Marie

+ “To Be Human” by Sia & Labrinth

+ Remind to Me to Forget” by Kygo feat. Miguel

+ Real Friends” by Camila Cabello

You can listen to the rest of the songs on my April playlist here.

Shoutout to My Camera

This last month I did something crazy, I finally got myself a DSLR camera. I decided on a Canon Rebel T6. One of my good friends has one and she let me take a few photos with it at school and that was all it took for me to know it was the one I wanted. I am very excited to really test the waters with this beauty this summer. So stay tuned!

I apologize for this post being so late in the next month, but it’s just been crazy recently. Final projects, a speech, and other busy work assignments have been taking up all my time recently.

And when I haven’t been working on homework, I’ve been at work trying to save up enough money to help improve this site.

I actually just recently got to upgrade my WordPress site to the Business plan for a really great price, so I am so excited to see what I can do with it.

I have a lot of fun new content planned for the summer and I will have the time to get them all done and out for you to read! Only a couple more weeks people . . . Thank you for sticking around 🙂

What was something you were loving in April? When do you get out of school?

January Favorites

January Favorites

Although I’m sure most of you are astounded that January is finally coming to an end, I am confused as to why it isn’t May already. I feel that 2018 is off to a very slow start, but hey, at least we can say 1/12 of 2018 is done. Let’s not even think about how small that really is.

This month new obsessions were born with things I used/wore and I thought I would share a few of them with. So here we go…

App of the Month

Definitely, my favorite app of the month is Twitter. I’m not usually a huge Twitter user, but it is honestly one of the greatest places to casually connect with other people that you share common interests with (Let’s be Twitter friends @lookshecanblog!). I have connected with so many other bloggers this month just by participating in Twitter chats.

My favorite has to be the #GRLPOWR chats hosted by @GRLPOWRCHAT. They have a different blogger host the chats each time and it is such an amazing thing to be a part of.

Artsy Things

If you saw my last post, you know I’m really starting to get into bullet journaling, so of course, I had to mention it. I got my bullet journal on Amazon and I’ve been pinning ideas and inspiration on Pinterest all month so you can also take a look at that board here.

60190eae-7c9f-4f65-8f9d-b798e39aebde

I’ve also been loving my Stabilo pens. These are the point 88 ones and I found this 25 pack on Amazon. They write so well and if you are into calligraphy or even just writing super tiny you would really like these too.

Speaking of calligraphy, I am definitely not an expert and mine don’t really look that great yet, but I’m getting into it.

Music of the Month

Album: Back From the Edge by James Arthur

b52374b7-8f3d-48bd-84aa-80087185d6d5

I am fully aware this album has been out forever in the music world, but I just recently listened to the entire thing and WOW. He has such an emotional and powerful sound. I currently have it on repeat.

My favorite songs: “Back from the Edge”, “I Am”, “Safe Inside”, “Train Wreck”, “Skeletons”

Other songs I’ve been loving this month:

+ Perfect Duet by Ed Sheeran feat. Beyoncé

+ Dear World by Echosmith

+ El Perdón by Nicky Jam feat. Enrique Iglesias

+ Freedom by Dierks Bentley

Dorothy Parker Quotes

I had to do a project over the lovely Dorothy Parker for school and I fell in love with her wit.

Dorothy Parker: A Short Summary in Quotes

“His ignorance was an Empire State Building of ignorance. You had to admire it for its size.”

“I don’t have to attend every argument I’m invited to.”

“Youth, it was a way I had, to do my best to please. And change with every passing lad to suit his theories. But now I know the things I know and do the things I do, and so if you not like me so, to hell, my love, with you.”

“Women and elephants never forget.”

“I shall stay the way I am because I do not give a damn.”

“I prefer not to think before speaking. I like being just as surprised as everyone else by what comes out of my mouth.”

“That would be a good thing for them to cut on my tombstone: Wherever she went including here, it was against her better judgement.”

What a gal.

January Style Picks

bef20284-6ff9-4ac3-bfc3-ed3160752697

I used to be so phone-case-crazy, but since I developed the fear of dropping my phone and shattering the screen, having a more protective case is more important to me and since those are little more pricey, it has since lead me to stop buying so many random phone cases (I was that girl who even had a Christmas phone case; actually think I had two… It was bad).

I have had this phone for almost a year now and have only had my black Otterbox phone case. Needless to say, I am shocked at this newfound self-control. So I decided after having the same phone case for this long to get myself a new one.

I found this beautiful eyelash case by Sonix at TJ Maxx for only $10 so I thought at that price it was too good to pass up.

If you have been keeping up with me on Instagram, @lookshecanblog, I have been living in this sweater I picked up at TJ Maxx. It’s a super cute gray sweater with these pink and blue flowers.

I feel like this sweater just gives off some super cool retro-vintage vibes. I am plant-obsessed and so I am in love with the earthy, but cute, vibes this sweater gives off.

I also haven’t seen a lot of sweaters around like this one. It’s definitely got that old style look to it, which just happens to be my favorite look.

I love how there are so many ways you can style sweaters. My favorite way to style this sweater is with mom jeans or a denim skirt with either boots or colorful shoes, like my pink Puma sneakers.

I will be sharing my recent beauty favorites later on this month, so keep an eye out for that.

What is something you were obsessed with in January?
